1. The Three Primary Longevity Classes

Jaimini astrology divides human lifespan into three primary categories:

2. The Sutra of the Three Pairs (Jaimini Ayurdaya Scheme)

To determine which class of longevity applies to a chart, Jaimini evaluates the zodiac sign types - Movable (Chara), Fixed (Sthira) or Dual (Dvisvabhava) - for three key pairs:

• Pair 1: Lord of the Lagna (Ascendant) and Lord of the 8th House
• Pair 2: Saturn and the Moon

3. The Sign-Combination Rule (The Sutra Rules)

• Both signs are Movable OR One is Fixed + One is Dual: Indicates Alpayu (Short Life).

4. The Majority Rule (Rule of Two out of Three)

Once each of the three pairs is calculated, the overall longevity class is decided by majority vote:

• Whichever longevity class appears at least 2 out of 3 times becomes the final primary longevity class.

• Exception: If all three pairs give three different results (one Alpayu, one Madhyayu, one Poornayu), the result given by the Lagna and Hora Lagna pair overrides the others.

5. Timing the Period via Sthira Dasha (The Brahma Planetary Clock)

Once the longevity class (Poornayu: 64–96 years) is established, Jaimini uses Sthira Dasha (Fixed Periods) to map out the years:

• Identifying the Brahma Planet: The strongest functional planet among the 6th, 8th and 12th lords relative to the Lagna/7th house is nominated as Brahma.

• Starting the Dasha: The Sthira Dasha cycle begins from the sign occupied by the Brahma planet.

• Sign Durations in Sthira Dasha:
– Movable signs run for 7 years
– Fixed signs run for 8 years
– Dual signs run for 9 years

• Determining the Timeframe: The periods run sequentially forward until they complete the designated longevity window (for Poornayu, the window covering 64 to 96 years).
