Astronomically, the Ascendant is the exact zodiac sign that was rising on the eastern horizon at the precise minute and location you took your first breath.

Because the Earth completes a full rotation every 24 hours, all 12 zodiac signs pass over the eastern horizon each day. This means the Ascendant sign changes roughly every two hours.
