Planetary Aspects and Effects

In Vedic Astrology (Jyotish), planets do not only affect the specific house they are sitting in - they also "look at" and influence other houses in your birth chart (Kundli). This cosmic sight or glance is called Graha Drishti (Planetary Aspect).

When a planet aspects a house or another planet, it projects its natural energy, traits and agenda into that area of your life - sometimes blessing it, and other times challenging it.

The Core Rules of Planetary Aspects

1. Count the House as "1": When counting aspects, always start counting from the house where the planet is currently sitting.

2. The Universal 7th Aspect: Every single planet casts a full 100% aspect on the 7th house directly across from it.

3. Special Aspects (Vishesh Drishti): Three planets - Mars, Jupiter and Saturn possess additional special full aspects because of their immense cosmic roles.

Every Planet's Aspect Details

1. Surya (The Sun)

Full Aspect (100%): 7th House
Nature of Aspect: Brings heat, focus, authority and ego to the 7th house from its position. It illuminates that house but can burn or create power dynamics in sensitive areas.

2. Chandra (The Moon)

Full Aspect (100%): 7th House
Nature of Aspect: Brings emotional attachment, mind investment and nurturing energy to the house directly opposite it.

3. Mangal (Mars) — Special Aspects

Full Aspect (100%): 4th House, 7th House and 8th House

• 9th Aspect - Blesses higher wisdom, fortune and dharma.

6. Shukra (Venus)

Full Aspect (100%): 7th House

Nature of Aspect: Demands discipline, maturity and delay.
• 3rd Aspect - Requires heavy personal effort and determination.

8. Rahu (North Node)

Full Aspect (100%): 7th House (Many traditions also assign 5th and 9th special aspects similar to Jupiter)
Nature of Aspect: Casts a shadow of obsession, unconventional desire and sudden expansion over whichever house it glances upon.

9. Ketu (South Node)

Full Aspect (100%): 7th House (Many traditions also assign 5th and 9th special aspects; I personally do consider)
